The news is good from the first hikers into West Fork of Oak Creek - TopicsExpress

The news is good from the first hikers into West Fork of Oak Creek today. Oak Creek Canyon reopened Wednesday, Oct 1st after being closed to the public following the Silde Fire in June. Hikers reported only two small areas in West Fork that showed fire damage. The first burn site is visible from the bridge near the parking lot. The second burn area is seen near the 6th creek crossing. The water is running about 1 inch above normal levels. But the trail is currently very muddy. Fall leaf colors should peak around Oct. 20th. Due to above normal rain fall, the colors should be excellent this season. My photos from Fall 2011 show conditions following a wet monsoon season. Send your best Fall color photos to azcentral
