The next day and for 4 days, we have get up early to get to the city. The Democratic Convention was awesome...a historical event in the making. We got tickets to attend every day. When Robert Kennedy spoke, he got about 15 standing ovations. I really enjoyed the states roll call for the nomination of Lyndon B. Johnson for President and his acceptance speech. We saw Ladybird up close and she was really a pretty lady! That evening, Daddy and I were walking down the street when her limo came by. It stopped in the middle of the block right in front of us. She rolled down the window, waved, and said Hello to me. Wow!! The Mississippi delegation had walked out of the convention and held a protest on the Boardwalk. They had cooked a huge pot of spaghetti and had peanut butter on toast. The smell was so putrid that we could not eat either for about a year at home . When Daddy, Chris, a Tulsa attorney friend (who was paralyzed during WWII) and his secretary were walking on the Boardwalk, a group of Nazis came walking by waving the American Flag upside down. Daddys friend said something and an altercation broke out. Well, the patriotic foursome (Daddy was a Marine, Semper Fi!) took them on. The Nazis were arrested when the bystanders, who were clapping, told the police the Nazis started out. We picked up a paper the next day which had a picture of the Famous Patriots from Oklahoma! The convention is over so we head back to BA. I feel so very fortunate to be able to have the memories of these journeys. To me, it has been fun to honor our loving parents with these stories. I hope you have enjoyed them. Have a Great Evening!
