The old western, “Hang Em High”, starred Clint Eastwood as a marshal out for revenge against those that falsely accused them. Well, you know how Clint Eastwood movies go. He got his revenge. Their was a judge in that movie. He was a hard man. He wanted every man brought in alive so that he could see them hang. At one point he built a giant gallows so that a bunch of guys could all drop at the same moment. It was a gruesome sight as the town filled with people that wanted to see so many that didnt deserve to draw another breath on this earth get what was coming to them. One of the men that was set to hang was an innocent man. Clint plead his case before the judge but the judge didnt want truth or justice to prevail. He wanted a hanging. In his eyes, there was no innocence. So the innocent man hung along with the rest of the bunch. God has ultimate power like the judge in the movie did. He can choose to look upon us as guilty and see no innocence and he can decide to judge us all. Well, he could until Jesus came and died on the cross. When that happened he put that option away for a later date. Yet, I am often pretty brazen about this grace which has been extended to me. I get a little cocky about what I want and how I want it and when I want it. I refuse to admit my shortsightedness and I try to boss God around and tell him how to do things. I need to have a little more fear about what God can do and a lot more gratefulness that he doesnt do it. Seriously, the crowd has deserved to see a hanging and what does God do? Allows them to hang someone else in my place. John 3:16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
