The past 12 months I have been listening to a lot of Youtube recordings. Most of all I keep going back to the Chinese 12 Girls Band. This is no average group of people..... they achieve the impossible, that is, what most people will not even begin to attempt, because, its.... too difficult. So what is it about Chinese people (forget the downside for a moment) that makes it possible to do the impossible? First of all, they have a deep seated understanding of the natural environment (again, forget the political downside for now), which provides its extensions through the instruments and music played on these instruments. This extension can be projected by an individual or any number of musicians, including voices used as instruments of sound rather than words. So what does it take to achieve such skills as these girls display, making it look easy, playing difficult to master instruments while gracefully smiling and dancing to the rhythm even when choreographed? Any learned musician can give you the answer: Dedicated practice, patience, perseverance, let go of the ego, dont dwell on the negative, listen to the soul of the Universe and the Earth, understand how the human central nervous system works, and what makes people (and animals and even plants) respond. When it comes to any ensemble, it takes the combined effort of all members to achieve the impossible: a composer, arranger, conductor, which could be either one, two or three people, and skilled musicians with complete trust in that composer/arranger/conductor to abide by the fundamental rules for any size ensemble to work. It you grew up in a European Westernized society, you would have been predominantly conditioned to Western/Americanized music and very little to Oriental music - which includes Mongolian, Tibetan, Chinese, Japanese and extends to North American Native music, all have similar environment related harmonic qualities. But here, we have a Chinese 12 Girls Band that plays not merely Chinese music, but any kind of music at all including Jazz, Popular Western, Spanish, South American, Irish, Gypsy, Bach, Beethoven, and manages to project all the good things in Life of which most people only talk. This could be done by any individual musician, group, ensemble or orchestra anywhere, if the focus is directed towards the amazing capabilities people possess. But that requires education, and effort on behalf of each and every individual - which is not applicable to music alone, but to everything we, humans, do. This is but one randomly chosen 12 Girls Band videos of over a hundred that I have listened to the past 12 months, 4 hours today alone. To pick a favorite is a mission impossible. Just let go of the infinite sad stories on FB for a day, relax and let the playlist go by itself for a few hours while you just sit around, take in the rhythm, the syncopation, the harmony and the presence of uncomplicated Life where smiles prevail.... if you can muster the patience.
