The power of a young child in mortal peril to bring a community - TopicsExpress

The power of a young child in mortal peril to bring a community together is never less than humbling... that so many people should set their own concerns & problems aside for a short while to stand alongside those that love Millie Rose is a hugely empowering statement of care & love. Only when our 1st child came into our lives did I become properly aware of the unspoken duty of care for our children that binds a community together. When you have children you suddenly understand that all children are ours to love & cherish... I didnt understand that before (although I do know very well that there are many childless people who understand & execute that duty just as effectively - if not more so in some cases - as parents)... We witnessed this spirit of community throughout Lizzys illness. During the chaotic fog of panic & despair that coloured our existence last year it was often impossible to truly acknowledge & appreciate just how much was done for us and around us... looking back now Lizzys mummy & I are frequently astonished & humbled by the efforts made on our behalf, often by folk that wed thought of as acquaintances or even strangers... we became aware that we were part of an extraordinary community of friends & family here in Battersea. & beyond. These things occur to me as I read about darling Millie-Roses funeral... her loving family will become aware, if theyre not already, that their beautiful daughter has cemented friendships & defined community spirit in a way that only children can... Lizzy did this also, & whilst my heart aches with loss, it also bursts with pride... for Lizzy and all children touched by disease & suffering... Big love to Millie-Rose, Alex (Lizzys dad) xxx
