The producer organisms refer to the majority of plants which ideally produce food for the sole consumption of every other living thing on earth. You don’t have to kill a plant to derive food from it. GMO foods refer to an area involving the genetic modification of plant and or animal life for the benefit of increased food production and food source manipulation. For example, want to increase protein content in rice? You got it! How about increasing trace sources of B12 in fruit and vegetables or making bacteria produce an enhanced amount, or making drought resistant crops? You got it too! Many are against GMO foods because they believe manipulation of nature and natural eco-systems cause’s trouble. These people forget that 99.99% of all life that has ever existed no longer exists. In other words, the eco-systems currently present have been constantly changing for as long as the human mind can comprehend. Yes many species of both plants and animals have come to interact in a way which is mutually sustainable, however this does not mean this interaction is necessary for long term survival as in every case, it will never last forever. Evolution causes gradual change in all living things and causes them to change over time in response to changes which affect their ability to reproduce and source food for survival. GMO foods fast track evolution by changing the genetic content of food producing organisms for mans own interests right now. Above is my line of thinking in my support for GM foods. Discuss nicely.
