The reason I abandoned my conservative upbringing, and worldview, is I felt it was getting life totally backward. In no other point is this more obvious than in the conservative self-image about LIBERTY. I speak here of political conservatives, which is the group that takes conservatism into profound examples of dysfunction. Conservatives are the champions of authority, certainly not the opposite. Conservatives are the party of law and order, despite professing an absolute certainty that government cannot get anything right. It doesnt even have to be a good law, for them to fall into line like robots, and condemn others for breaking the rule. In the next breath they condemn liberals for too much government. This puts the liberty party as the primary supporters warfare, of excessive police and military force, and the defenders of torture as a tool for government to use legitimately. Thats not liberty. Conservatives are the party of religion in government, because of their desperate respect for authority. They have decided this conveniently because they also claim themselves as having the majority religion in this country. They even claim the founders saw it their way to BS their way into seizing the authority of government to aid in their religion. And (their interpretation of) God carries the authority of...God. Conservatives say they operate under too many burdens but cannot abide by any advice other than for minorities with far less capital to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps in a capitalist country. They insist on the capital-less underclasses to advance without assistance because conservatives know they will enjoy a head start, and always be ahead because of it. They cite the authority of our heritage of free enterprise. War, peace, the drug war, anti-democracy political tactics, corporatism and consumerism as a national experiment of the business sector, and even down to the often-erroneous FOX news -- conservatism is a beautiful simple vision of rhetorically simple fact, that when you consider carefully, works for individuals, so they feel it must be true in government. But when they try to make government work by it, they fail dismally as in the most conservative states. Those conservative states with the most diverse populations, suffer. There is more than one example at the state level of how true this is, unless you buy into the idea the the reason they have all those poor, uneducated, sick people in their areas of control is not their fault. It is because those people need to pull themsleves up and conservatives insist on starving them into doing that if it takes 500 years. Its just too much backwards thinking for me, and error. Conservatism is a self-interest philosophy that helps individuals prosper, but is poison when used for government. Just look. Since Reagan, America -- both parties -- are far more conservative and the country is in severe decay -- and conservatives cant see this is what they do to a nation. IMHO.
