The reason Joe Bonamassa, is already one of the greatest ever, is that HE GETS IT. It is the Song. It is the Tone. It is the Tubes. It is the Dynamic. It is the Taste. It is an understanding of the totality of the heritage, and the respect for what he carries forward. Always on the road, always on the Jam. With an understanding of his phenomenal good fortune, and enough grace and intelligence, not to take anything for granted. Every piece is falling in place for Joe B. to be considered the greatest ever, if his health, and luck hold. I did not say that, because I am some huge Joe B. Fan. I am a realist, he is 38. When he becomes The Greatest Ever.... Hendrix RIP, Page, Bolin RIP, Blackmore, Beck, Winter RIP, Gallagher RIP, Gibbons, Townshend, Barre, Allman, Clapton, and 100, (or 500) other fantastically inventive, capable, tasteful, and amazing guitar gods, will be remembered as legends in the past, as some already are. Just as Leadbelly, Johnson, Hopkins, Terry, McGhee,Thornton, and hundreds of Blues Legends are today. and just as Bing, Frank, Dino, Mel, and dozens of other classic singers also are. The legends will be appreciated, admired, and studied/enjoyed in absolute Awe! But in 25 or 30 years will they still be performing? In 30 years, Joe B. will be about my age now, and Baby I am Rockin My Days and Nights! .. at this pace, Joe B. will be on a level I predict will be unprecedented in the history of both Guitar, and Artist. He is Fit, Supported, Focused, Healthy, and Secure. He might well play live untile he is 85! Scary Huh!! I consider 4 Guitarist/artists to be separate from the pack of masters of that art. Each for unique reasons regarding his unique artistic impact during his productive period. I also consider that he must be as much artist as instrumentalist. This requires significant original composing and singing. I feel Hendrix is the first King of the Electric Guitar. Jimi Hendrix, had several line ups but He was the central talent and writer. His innovations, and creative originality, was nothing short of revolutionary. Jimi reinvented not only Guitar, but branded music with his own Stain forever. I believe he was followed by the potential 2nd King, who unfortunately met his tragic end, before his true potential was reached. This was Tommy Bolin. Tommy Bolin, had a good number of bands, and did considerable sharing of the spotlight, but was the center of only Energy and the Tommy Bolin Band. His work resume and accomplishments for such a short career are simply astonishing, though tarnished by the scandal of excesses of those times. I was blessed with the good fortune to know Tommy from age 17 until his death and to see him perform hundreds of times. Living through the entire classic rock era as it developed, I had exposure to all the greatest artists and their material. Tommy was simply as original and unique in his own way as Jimi. He was not simply a good guitarist, he was amazing to experience. Third in order of both time and significance, is arguable for me, and I vacillate between several artists... Stevie Ray, Billy Gibbons, Peter Townshend, and a couple others are likely contenders, but many have extremely great, and almost permanent stable bands who had a hell of a lot of impact on the material. So I will leave #3 open for now. ... Uh on second thought just because I so clearly remember (Just ask Jeff Beck! and about Tommy too!) Has to be Stevie Ray. I guess you can see this coming.. Just watch. Barring some unfortunate situation, I predict that Joe B. will become the Most Celebrated GUY! Queen Elizabeth 1, Muhammad Ali, Stephen Hawking, Budda. Once in a great while, a name attains the status of a singularity. Plenty of Kings, Holy Men, Boxers, Great Minds, but one who holds the title. In 1967 I predicted Holograms would be used to recreate an act onstage in motion and in place of a live performer. This became an accomplished fact at Coachella, When Tupac was resurrected, and minds were blown. In 1974 I informed Paul Rodgers, that in my opinion he was one of, if not the finest vocalist alive in Rock and Roll. The ensuing years have confirmed that statement. Anybody who wishes to dispute that can meet me in the alley! Simply awesome! In 1995 I told all my old geezer rocker friends that Green Day was going to be HUGE, and would have the stature of all of the legends of rock music. They thought I was nuts! (These are my friends, man!) Today 20 years later, they are mighty silent about those discussions, as Green Day sells out hundreds of huge venues each and every tour, and are considered MONSTERS OF ROCK! I do not take music lightly, it is my lifes blood.Check out Joe Playing with EVERYBODY BELOW! WELDING HIS LEGEND SOLIDLY, BEFORE ANYONE ELSE DIES!
