The Turkish protesters are calling for an end to police violence and ‘free and unbiased media’. The impact of social media has been evident in previous political situations – the 2011 Egyptian Arab Spring was regarded as the ‘Facebook Revolution’, similarly to the Syrian crisis, in which social media proved crucial due to the lack of mainstream media coverage. Social media provides a window to the world, providing it is used correctly.
