The riots recently seen in Turkey, dubbed the ‘Turkish Spring’ - TopicsExpress

The riots recently seen in Turkey, dubbed the ‘Turkish Spring’ by the media worldwide, have been continuously broadcasted globally through the use of social media. Certainly it can be suggested that social media is crucial to discontented citizens who see it as a route of momentum upon which a voice can be heard; the protesters of Turkey have brought global attention to their cause in a country that seems to have tightened human rights. The Turkish protesters are calling for an end to police violence and ‘free and unbiased media’. The impact of social media has been evident in previous political situations – the 2011 Egyptian Arab Spring was regarded as the ‘Facebook Revolution’, similarly to the Syrian crisis, in which social media proved crucial due to the lack of mainstream media coverage. Social media provides a window to the world, providing it is used correctly.
