The soul of a child is the loveliest flower that grows in the garden of God. - Eleanor Doan A Piece of Plastic Clay I took a piece of plastic clay And idly fashioned it one day. And as my fingers pressed it still, It moved and yielded to my will. I came again when days were passed; The bit of clay was hard at last. The form I gave it still it bore, But I could change that form no more. I took a piece of living clay And touched it gently day by day. And molded with my power and art A young childs soft and yielding heart. I came again when years were gone; It was a mind I looked upon. That early impress still he bore, And I could change that form no more. -Author Unknown- I think I am going to frame this poem and hang it where I can read every day. What a great reminder , that what I as mother do today, effects my little ones when they are grown. Rather it be the touch of love, kindness, patience, time that I leave; or irritability, busyness. So soft, tender and impressionable is the heart of a child. Their only longing is to feel loved and safe. Oh, what an important role we mothers have. Do we direct them toward the right path. Take time to mold them in a positive way. Or do we simply let time go by. Never stopping to play or simply listen to what they have to say. Sometimes, what we see as silly or unimportant, means the world to them. Someday, when they are grown, we will no longer have that time to mold and direct. Through our actions and words, are we teaching our sons what a good wife and mother should be? Are we teaching our daughters how they are to be as a wife and a mother. We as mothers have a high calling that NO ONE else can fill but us. Our babies are a gift from God. Given to us for a purpose and reason. How often I catch myself forgetting to take time. Thinking I can play later. I can read a book with them later. We are never promised another day. May we cherish today, and not let a moment slip by wasted.
