The story of the bread bin. The wee pine breadbin had stayed - TopicsExpress

The story of the bread bin. The wee pine breadbin had stayed in the same place since 1989, thats about 25 years. Its mouth (lid) remained open ready to receive the bread it would keep hidden and fresh (ish). Sadly, the loaves were too large and were placed at the bins side. The bin would look around and despair that it was no use to man nor bread. It made do with containing the odd packet of oatcakes and occasional malt loaf which it felt was a small crumb of comfort. On top, the bin held the odd packet of paracetemol, a pen and a pad of paper used to write shopping lists. This was as far from the purpose of a bread bin as it could imagine. The day came when the kitchen was to be redecorated and the bread bin heard it was to be not only moved but thrown out. The bin was horrified, it had done its best for years, never complaining, always waiting with its mouth open ready to be seen for the purpose full bin it was. As the breadbin was taken to be emptied of crumbs, before being relegated to the garage to await the arrival of the skip, the bin heard a loud sigh. It looked at the person moving it and saw the gratitude in her eyes. As it looked where she looked it saw two missing tiles on the wall. Dear breadbin she said, dont be sad, you may not have held much bread for us, but your presence has been a constant comfort and hidden the work which we should have addressed a long time ago. Thank you. The moral of the story is of course that we never ever know what our presence brings to others. Our purpose in life may well be something entirely different to that we think we are here for. .
