The time has come. Wed been checking the coop daily for our first eggs without luck. But we knew we were close. The girls are about the right age, and some of them have started singing the egg song... If you keep chickens, you know what I mean. My sister and her boyfriend came over this morning and found a single egg under my old Ford pickup. Silly chickens, this is NOT where youre supposed to lay your eggs! I scolded the nearest girls pecking the ground. My little sis followed a few of the girls around for a bit and then called me over to a pallet leaning against the barn. We caught one of the girls sitting on a whole pile of eggs, in the process of laying another one! We went on a bit of an Easter egg hunt to see if there were anymore scattered in the yard, under bushes, but these were the only ones we found. Tonight, after I got home, there was another egg waiting for me in the same spot. All told, we counted 14 eggs today! The first ever eggs on the Farmstead!
