The two Islamic threats: If we look back hundreds of years we would see 4 socio-political entities China India Islam and Divergent Europe. Out of those 4 Europe was the most backward in terms of health, education, military and technological advancement. For a variety o reasons Europe not only surpassed the other 3 but eventually dominated them-colonialism etc... The only real threat to Europe and Christendom was Islam. By 800AD Arabs conquered not only the Middle East but over half of Spain. By 1300 Islam conquered most of what is Yugoslavia today. By 1550 it had reached the borders of central Europe and by 1629 the gates of Vienna -the core of Europe. Islam has therefore been the only threat to the west and this has been ingrained in our consciousness. Islam has served as the Other. The real threat to the whole world is of course radical Islam. All religious fundamentals ine is a threat to so much of our world-Christian and Jewish fundamentalism too. The difference btw Islam and the other 2 of course is that Christian and Jewish fundamentalists dont go around beheading people and forcing 7 year olds to get married.
