The well is already poisoned; the city hurts! Former lobbyist and Assemblyman Dan Coffey say he plans to stay out of this years 2014 Assembly elections. According to quotes to the ADN; This is their battle, Why poison the well? “Poisoning the well…one bad apple spoils the basket…the act of malicious manipulation in order to deny resources. On the contrary to what Coffey has done for decades, now becomes self-preservation and fooling the public. Not so says former Anchorage Assembly member and mayoral candidate Paul Bauer. Dan Coffey is neck deep into the Assembly races; financially and politically. Coffey’s life-long friend Marc Hellenthal and Coffey are partners in the political business of consultation and lobbying. Hellenthal does not consult for any candidate that Coffey does not see as a political gain for himself, says Bauer. What Coffey is really saying is that you will not see his $500 checks on candidates APOC reports during his candidacy for mayor. Behind the scenes Coffey will be telling others who they should support in order to line himself up for his own political capital to be Mayor; Democrat or Republican. Paul Bauer knows both Coffey and Hellenthal very well from his own experiences working with both of them on campaigns and the Assembly. The Anchorage political environment since Mayor George Wurech left office in 2003 has been conducted behind the scenes with hand-shake agreements for the line of succession to be the next Mayor of Anchorage. Open and transparent city politics has been overshadowed by self-interests and motivation for the next higher office, says Paul. Anchorage citizens are left with a lack of leadership which defines our city lacking new business and competition, resulting in cultural and community development stagnation, Bauer says.
