There are enough on the net who feel Messi should not have won the Golden Ball. Everyone has their view but consider this. 1. Messi won 4 MOMs out of 7 games. 2. Created most chances in this WC. 3. Scored 4 goals 4. Assisted 2, i think including the critical Di Maria strike against Swiss 5. The team which was hailed as an attacking power was blanked by strong defences and the goal scoring responsibility came right on Messis shoulders and he scored some stunners. 6. He was the man who was marked often by 3-4 men in the box, as opposition quickly guessed that the other attackers were not good enough. 7. He had 3rd highest dribbles in the history of a world cup after Maradona 86 and Jarzinho 70. 8. Conspiracy by Fifa to give him Golden Ball, maybe a theory but this is a guy who has won more individual awards than anyone in the history of the game and what advantage does this hold. I mean Forlan won it in 2010 what did it help him in ? not even a good contract anywhere. 9. Does not dive or playact. 10. Has three goals in the top 3 of this tournament. I mean people are voting for James Rodriguez, who basically won only one match for his team over Messi who led his team to the finals winning atleast 4 matches for them. James Rodriguez wasnt even the best in Columbia, if anyone has watched the matches that is, Caudurado was. Mascherhano was good but only in the last 3 games , in the Nigeria and iran game, he made lots of mistakes. The closest competitor is Robben IMO, but he was blanked out and his cheating made bigger headlines. Second best player of the world cup.
