There are so many scary news out there today, and too many journalists, I fear, are just adding to the problem with their sensationalism and their political agenda. I believe we should all take a deep breath and teach our children about good civil behavior and good will toward our neighbors. We also need to show our police force that we are very grateful to them, and we realize the incredible job they are doing to keep us safe. We need to recognize that these men and women, and their families, are under a tremendous stress today, and we need to do what we can to show them support. Next time you see a cop, stop and shake hi/her hand and have your children say thank you to them. My dad was a policeman, and I still remember the countless, sleepless nights my mom spent waiting up for him, and worrying for his safety. It is not an easy life, and very little appreciation is given to these men and women. I have a lot of families in my practice who are in the police force. I want to let each one of them know how deeply grateful I am to them. You are in my thoughts and prayers every day. A special thanks to the husband of my office manager, who is a NYC police officer.
