There has been a change in the time of the Listening Campaign - TopicsExpress

There has been a change in the time of the Listening Campaign training tomorrow. It will now be from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. instead of 2 p.m. as previously noted. What is a Listening Campaign? True to the dictionary definition, a Listening Campaign is a collective “effort to hear something” from every member of a particular church. What do we want to hear? We want to hear “your story” – or at least a small part of your story. We want to intentionally get to know some new people and discover once again some old friends. We want to build and spread relationships throughout the church. The Parish Council is undertaking this Listening Campaign because renewing our connections can only help our church grow and prosper as we move forward into the future. Listening to Every Member? How will that happen? A Listening Team will be recruited and trained in the art of listening. Each member of the team will be given 10 to 15 names to interview/listen to. Appointments will be set-up at a time and place convenient to both parties – often before or after service. We are suggesting each listening session take no more than 30 minutes. The listening team will have four to six weeks to complete all the interviews in the church. Obviously, the more members on the listening team the shorter the Listening Campaign’s duration. Where did this idea come from? Listening Campaigns and relationship building strategies are standard fare in most church growth programs that cost thousands of dollars. Sr. Cheryl is a staff member of the Gamaliel Community Organizing Network – Gamaliel’s Rekindling Congregations Program has been copied by many of the high priced programs and is endorsed by the presiding bishop of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. A $500 annual membership in MOSES allows us to participate in this Listening Campaign. In the next couple weeks we will be putting more information on the Listening Campaign in the bulletin but if you are curious and/or want to part of creating an even better church community then put Saturday, September 21st (the Listening Team training) in your calendar and the Sts Simon and Jude Listening Campaign on your prayer list. The Listening Campaign begins September 28 and 29!
