There have been a couple of recent posts pertaining to Andrew Jackson Elementary school, and the principal, Minnie Lee Ragland. She was of such an imposing stature that I had to post a picture of Ms. Ragland so that you can appreciate her physical presence. She may have been a Marine Drill Instructor in a previous life as her stern look could stop you in your tracks, plus she must have been 6 2 or 6 3. This is the fifth grade class in Dec. of 1955. Mrs. Prince is the teacher at the top left, and Ms. Ragland is at the top right. Just for giggles, and to test my old brain cells, Ive tried to recall the names of my fellow classmates: Front row, left to rt.: Gail Cherry, Johnny Turner, Patricia Edwards, Philip Crabtree, James Milliken, Joey ?, Lucretia Byrd. 2nd. row: Jill Welty, Lynda Huyck, Sharon Merrick, Phillip Morris, Billy LaRue, ? girl, Jennye Long, Carolyn Moore. 3rd. row: Tommy Caylor, Phil Harig, Dan McClintock?, Jim Wright, Tommy Gilliam?, Dale Kemp, Edward Emerson. If Ive misnamed anyone pls. let me know and if anyone knows those I didnt know, or I have a doubt about, pls. let me know. Yep, I too think Andrew Jackson should have retained its original name, or if it had to be changed, it should have been named for Ms. Ragland.
