There is a disease in America that is becoming rampant. This disease is more devastating than cancer, is more prevalent than heart disease, and is affecting more people than diabetes. It is the disease of unthankfulness. More than anyone on earth, we as believers ought to live lives of thankfulness. Consider these statistics: The word “thanksgiving” is used in the Bible 39 times, all in the Old Testament. The word “thanks” is used 108 times, also all in the Old Testament. The word “praise” is used 195 times in the Bible, 169 times in the OT, 26 times in the New Testament. The word “thank” or “thanks” and the word “praise” are used interchangeably, and those two words are used together in the same verse at least 20 times. For example: Psalm 7:17, “I will give thanks to the LORD according to His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.” Psalm 30:4, “Sing praise to the LORD, you His godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name.” Psalm 30:12, “That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.” Psalm 69:30, “I will praise the name of God with song and magnify Him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 79:13, “So we Your people and the sheep of Your pasture will give thanks to You forever; to all generations we will tell of Your praise.” Psalm 92:1, “It is good to give thanks to the LORD and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High…” And there are many, many more. Instead of celebrating Thanksgiving once a year, lets practice ThanksLIVING! Praise His Holy Name! God has been so good!
