There is a poorly formatted meme being circulated based on this study. While the numbers are appalling the meme uses an apples v oranges format of racial comparison on a geographical level (ie comparing the State-wide rate of one race with the City rate of another race). The appropriate framework reveals that the incarceration rate (Statewide) for Wisconsin is 12.8% for Black Males and 1.2% for White Males. In other words a Black Male in Wisconsin is 10 times more likely to be incarcerated than a White Male. More significantly politically is that Wisconsin now has the highest incarceration rate for Black Males in the country. A point that I wonder if Sen. Rand Paul will bring up while debating Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker in the coming Presidential campaign (Given Sen. Pauls focus on the issue) Ive included a link to the original study in my first comment box.
