Theres a delusion going on on social networks that 400 likes on a post means you have 400 people in the real world who are willing to follow you to the ends of the earth. I once had a friend who had a little real life problem with a social media celebrity. Instead of oga celebrity to solve a real life problem, our homeboy was using social media to make noise. As usual he had a million likes and a billion comments and one of the comments was that the army of social media followers were going to show up with cameras and all at the police station because this impunity must end. Long and short of it is nobody came, Mr social media super star was left high and dry to stare down the face of fear. It wasnt a pretty sight when he started trying to buy justice with his feeble spread of 1000 naira notes. I see a lot of liars on social media whose real life estate consists of nothing more than a tokumbo car, a one room shack, a smartphone or the equivalent and 100mb data plan. These folks believe that they are celebrities and hence can say whatever the frack they want because they have an army of fools to like and comment of their status updates. They deliberately peddle half truths and sometimes put out outright lies which make the rounds until somebody else with the torch starts to expose the cracks in the stories. These set see nothing positive about the government (the other set see nothing wrong about the government) and live the better part of their waking lives scurrying for bad news about the government (while the other set scurries for good news). I am persuaded however to say that no matter what they do, we have a monstrous following in the real world who have taken a stand. These people are not on social media and even if they are, they dont read the long tales of good or bad. They just feel what they feel at their little corner and take their stand. This set of people know that: Religion is an integral part of the Nigerian polity and politics and they are not ashamed to play it. Tribal loyalty supersedes national loyalty because for over 40 years, the federal government hasnt done shit for them The holy North (the Muslim oligarchy) has absolutely NOTHING to offer this nation in terms of responsible leadership. Theres no way on earth that a man from the holy north can win an election in Nigeria again because. Holy north- Middle belt- Christian core north -south east- south south - 3/4 south west = Boko haram. Go figure. Theres is an Islamic expansionist agenda in the core north and until they can present a Christian candidate from those parts, the sentiments shall remain the same. The core north is sympathetic to boko haram and no matter the feeble attempts at speaking up which are more of denials (BH are not Muslims) than outright condemnation of boko haram, we are not deceived. The Niger Delta oil will cease to flow once a Hausa Fulani oligarch gets back on the throne whether by hook or by crook because it definitely wont happen by election. All these blackmail and campaigns of terror is just so that Nigeria and Nigerians will grow weary and say just give them the seat so that we will have peace. We do not want peace, we want equal rights and justice. GEJ has done more for this country than ANY past leader of unitary Nigeria has done and we can put their achievements side by side to compare. These truths are what drive the offline population and while Oby and her mob of goons who are feeding fat on donor aid money can make Tee shirts and berets to stand under the safety of the unity fountain provided by the same man they vilify to blindly chase a cat that was not missing in the first place, elections will not be won or lost by that, elections will be won by sentiments. The same sentiments which have put Buhari in poll position in the holy north will be the same sentiments albeit the opposite one, that will give GEJ a second term. It shall be a fight between A Christian versus a Muslim A southerner versus a northerner A newbie versus the establishment It shall be us versus them and that will be the turning point of electioneering in Nigeria. Now you all can keep being politically correct and talking in hush tones by the corners, I shall keep saying it as it is. I dont dream if an election bereft of sentiments because nowhere in the world is election won based on purely ideology. Our sentiments are just higher than theirs. Good day Nigeria.
