Theres really no in-between for tofu steak, either its a flop or simply amazing. Try it out and be the judge, were sure itll be the latter :) See full recipe below. Ingredients: SAUCE: 1/2 cup mirin* 1/2 cup rice wine** 1/2 cup light soy sauce 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup Magnolia All Purpose Flour, dissolved in 1 cup water VEGETABLES: 5 pc shiitake mushrooms, sliced 1 tbsp sliced ginger 1/3 cup sliced onions TOFU: 1/4 kg firm tofu (tokwa), cut into 6 and pat-dried 1 cup Magnolia All Purpose Flour 2 pc Magnolia Brown Eggs, beaten 1 (210 g) can Purefoods corned beef hash 2 cups Magnolia Nutri-Oil Palm Olein for deep-frying *substitute: add 1 to 2 tbsp of sugar to 1/2 cup white wine, vermouth or dry sherry **substitute: pale dry sherry or gin Procedure: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine mirin, rice wine, soy sauce and sugar. Let simmer then add flour mixture stirring continuously until thick. Add the vegetables and mix well. Set aside. TOFU: Roll each tofu in flour, eggs and corned beef. In a medium wok, heat oil. Deep-fry tofu for 3-5 minutes. Note that corned beef should become crunchy and tofu color becomes golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Arrange fried tofu on a platter. Pour sauce on top. Garnish with spring onions. Makes 3 to 4 servings.
