Thereve been many attempts to create a hardware interest group - TopicsExpress

Thereve been many attempts to create a hardware interest group within the UFEG, but so far none of them have come to fruition. With this thread Id like to gauge interest in the creation of such, as well as to propose various preliminary rules and points of interest in the group that would make it more interesting. The group will not only encompass hardware enthusiasts desires, but also those who follow consumer electronics and specialty niches as well. Anything from music players to smartphones to 4K video players can be covered by this group. In a certain capacity it will be supplementary to Film+, Melomanyaks, Literatti, CBG, Anime/Manga, VGG, and We Make Shit. Maybe even other groups, if there proves to be a hardware revolution for their respective media. It can also be the tech support group of UFEG, to which anyone may voice concerns pertaining to the diagnosis, repair, or purchase of hardware. VGG gaming machine builds may be shared and crossposted here, or requests for help can be redirected. Transcode formats can be discussed for the download buffs of Film+ and Anime/Manga. Melomanyaks enthusiasts could come over and talk about audiophile technology. The basic UFEG rules will apply. No spam, no intrusive advertising, no perverted behavior, etc. However, due to the inherently competitive nature of hardware enthusiasm, format wars, brand wars, console wars, OS wars, and all the like will be allowed. This will ensure that critical discussion is not suppressed in the group, while also enabling newbies who are on the fence about a particular purchase to see the pros and cons of each side. For example, a well-conducted Apple vs Android thread would be extremely useful to someone entering the smartphone market, with experienced users from both sides voicing their opinions of each others operating system as well as discussing the options available. That said, the operative term here is well-conducted, and all discussions of this sort will be strictly moderated - far more so than the average thread. This means that moderators may need to be knowledgeable in at least one field of interest covered by the group, in order to ensure that any conflict thread will have an observer who can intervene upon seeing overtly negative behavior towards any side. If you express interest in joining this group, or if you want to be a moderator, show up in the comments. Itd be great as well if you posted suggestions, tweaks to the framework, or added members to this group who would be able to participate.
