Today at 18:03 EST is our Winter Solstice (Yule Time) – it is our shortest day in Ottawa (Day 8:42)(Night 15:18) – recent snowfalls have frosted in place and clothed the trees in a traditional Christmas Card manner, and it looks really nice, but the thermometer has started plunging into the double centigrade negative numbers which you may think would make a nice change from the daily roasting that you experience of late, but I have reached the age when shoveling the white stuff is a chore that I tackle with less enthusiasm each year, and the scraping of ice off the vehicles prior to trips into town is a task that my son Tim decided to trade for the climate of San Francisco, and now my dear spouse Valerie has it firmly ingrained in her head that her car has to be warm and ice free before she ventures out the house.
