There’s this thing about teachers & also ministers: The job - TopicsExpress

There’s this thing about teachers & also ministers: The job requires you to be a judge on many levels. You might not want to word it that way, but it does. You are a barometer of judgment, of growth, of progress, of difficulty, of problems, or strengths, of weaknesses etc… There’s nothing wrong with this fact, but in our culture there is such a de-emphasis on accountability (even in relationships with our friends) that the mention of it is almost taboo. The fear among teachers & ministers is often that by even mentioning or focusing on the factual day to day judgments (or assessments) that must be made by the authority invested & entrusted to them, that they will alienate themselves from the very people that they wish, intend & are meant to help. However, the good ones get over it. Even so, many teachers & ministers manage to carry over the essential & helpful & necessary judgment mentality into their home life & into their personal life…. & doing this can become a non-helpful & destructive thing. Teachers & ministers are used to being in charge & being in a position of knowing & of power & of being the one that is heard & gives instruction. Often times, because of the job…. those same aspects end up blending into the personality of the “every day” in a way that becomes dominating & not healthy. Be mindful of this. This is the point at which an unawareness of job skills needed vs personal relationship skills needed, can end up leaving you with a very good career but no one to be there outside of your job when you get home. The teacher must not be so much the master of teaching & knowledge that she loses her humility & can no longer approach life with an attitude of learning or possibility of being wrong & willingness to admit error & fault. The same goes for the minister. When a teacher or minister loses connection & ability with being a student & learner, then it becomes impossible to truly teach.
