These past few weeks have been busy ones for our family. Wait, let me rephrase that. BUSIER! We are trying to keep up with full time jobs, 2 kids in high school and medical appts, dialysis schedules etc...however, in addition to the day in and day out, we are thinking ahead, planning ahead and preparing our family for when we get that call from Stanford that a liver and kidney are available and match! The way it works is that Stanford alerts the medical flight personnel and they immediately send out an ambulance to our house with the lights on to get to us in a hurry. . We have abou 2 hours time b4 we get on the plane and fly to San Jose. The flight is 100 mins and transportation awaits at the San Jose airport also to take us to Lucille Packard Childrens Hospital. Roma will be taken immediately to be prepped for the 8 to 10 hour surgery. Since our boys will not come on the flight with us right away they will be here in Oregon with family continuing with school until Roma is out of ICU and stable. Thrn they will be coming down to see their sister and us so that we can be togethrr as a family for a few days because that wont happen again for a few months. After Roma is out of ICU ed will be returning to Oregon with the boys. I will be staying in San Jose for approx 2 months with Roma until she can come home. Ed will fly down on weekends to see Roma. We dont know when this call will come. It could be in 2 months or 10 months or maybe more. They told us less than a year. She has spent 1 month on the list as of right now. Ed and I are busy making an emergency binder and a plan for the time we r gone. Medical releases, school schedules, lucas medications, doctors appts, pharmacy cards so prescriptions can be purchased. We are stocking up on all of the food items the boys eat since they are not quite driving yet. Basically all of this is on preparation if we leave in the lurch then we at least have the boys physical needs taken care of. We have small bags packed with basic necessities for ed and I also. However, we still have much work to do getting everything ready for the transplants. Sometimes, well often (who am I kidding lol) we live day to day because life is so busy for us so funding time to be AHEAD of schedule is tough. Yesterday, my sister, Gina, Ed and I met and she is helping us get organized and get a plan. Gina has also offered to organize fundraising projects and there is already one fundraiser in the works that we will b posting about soon. Gina will be creating a Faith over Fear Fundraising Page for our family also. In the meantime, Roma continues dialysis and part time work at Gresham Ford which helps keep her mind busy. She was able to go to the pumpkin patch this weekend too! Thankful for how good she has felt recently. I will be updating more often now that the crazy month of September has ended! We thank all of you for thoughts and prayers even those people we dont know who read this page. Lastly, b the support from the Ugarte and Granato family is one of a kind. Thank you for all you do and have done especially this last month during this busy time for us. Check back soon for fundraising info and more Stanford info!
