These were our Salfs MEN WHOM THE MOUNTAINS FEARED: (For those looking for a solution in our current scenario.) When Amr ibn al-Aas (RA) went on the conquest (of Babylon), the Patriarch of Alexandria, Muqawqis, sent two of his ambassadors to accompany him. They stayed with the Muslim troops for two days and then returned back to Muqawqis with the following description of what they had seen of the Muslims: 1. We have seen a people, where every single one of them desires death more than he desires life. 2. And humility is more beloved to him than high status. 3. Not one of them, has either an inclination or any love for what this world has to offer. 4. Their sitting is on the dirt and their eating is on their knees. 5. Their leader is like their common man. 6. Their noble man (of high status) is like the lowest of them (in means). 7. And it is not possible to distinguish their masters from the slaves. 8. When the time for prayer comes, none of them stays behind. 9. They wash their limbs thoroughly and when they pray, it is only with great devotion (to their Lord). The ambassadors continued, “We swear by whosoever is deserving of it (i.e. we swear by God)! Even if these people came before a mountain, they would move it from its place! And NO ONE has the power to fight them!” [Fatuh’ Misr wa Akhbarahu; pg.53] O Allah, I ask You by every name that belongs to You, which You have named Yourself with, or that which is revealed in Your Book, or that which You taught to any of Your creation, or that which You have preserved in the knowledge of the Unseen; Grant us an # ummahlike that of the earliest generations again!
