Things I learned in the last year: Black swans are not totally - TopicsExpress

Things I learned in the last year: Black swans are not totally black. Their flight feathers are dramatically white, and the rest of their feathers are shades of brown, grey and black. Toileting and showering while traveling are much more challenging than I thought theyd be when I first conceived of the idea of traveling the US selling my goods and helping people. Many public bathrooms close, even when the associated business is still open, and truck stops are fewer and further between than I thought. There is a huge difference between California and the rest of the country. Actually, many differences. And they are not as friendly as you might think toward outsiders in some of these places, which is strange, considering most of the people who have shown me this unfriendliness are descended of outsiders or were at one time outsiders to California themselves. The wheels of government are square, and made of heavy stone. I used to think they were just in need of lube. People will surprise with the levels of goodness and evil of which they are capable, just give them enough time. Yes, I sorta knew that before the last year. It just came home to me fully in the last year. The ocean is amazing and smells wonderful and even tastes good! The sheer number of plants that have adapted to drought is mind-blowing! It is possible for older cats to adapt to life on the road. Even a feral cat! I do not miss winter. At all. Not even a teensy bit. I do miss rain, a lot. Lobsters can grow as huge as a linebackers arm! :-O The sound of seals barking all night is like background music to me, and I can sleep right through it. The sound of dogs barking all night is like fingernails down a chalkboard, and I cant sleep through it at all. People dont pay nearly as much attention to whats going on around them as I thought. Maybe one out of 30 people might see me sitting in my van in any given spot. Only one or two of those might figure out that van is more than a transportation vehicle. There are more people who want to help one another than ANYone credits. There is still hope for us!!!
