This article about horse abuse, while serving its primary mission - TopicsExpress

This article about horse abuse, while serving its primary mission of ending the horrific torture of horses it reveals in the horse-walking industry, also illuminates one of the primary facets of the small-government-big-government debate. Describing an annual industry event which is suffering as the result of legal exposure, the article states : Attendance at the event has dropped, too. For some spectators, the allegations of abuse have soured the Celebration experience; others say the interference of federal regulators is to blame. This statement provides insight into the small-big debate, as we have on one side those who are willing to empower government to permanently eradicate the torture of horses for entertainment, and on the other side those who want what they want when they want it and resent the intrusion of any government at all into what they regard as their personal pursuit of happiness. My point isnt to claim that all horse walkers or horse trainers are animal abusers, as this simply isnt true. My point is to illuminate the fact that, for obvious reasons, those who actually are abusers overwhelmingly flock to the small-government side of this debate, and all too often, those who arent abusers accept these monsters with open arms, with no questions asked, and with cover by way of safety in numbers, simply because they need more voices on their side. (This is a scalable argument, in case youre wondering. Feel free to steal it and shrink or expand it as you see fit. It works beautifully on the Left-Right political divide. Enjoy.)
