This article yesterday by Georgette Braun about the need for Bold Goals got a quote from Ghandi going though my head Be the change you want to see in the world. But with this one piece to add to it because if you do not create the change you want in this world I promise you the world will change regardless and without your permission or impact. I guess my point is this if we dont create the change we want to see, we will be forced to see a change we had no role in... and thats not okay with me. Im sick of reading or hearing about our rising crime rate, the lack of safety in our community and the rising poverty levels. I wish the paper and our community had a scanner for positive news to read every 5 seconds instead some new crime. If you really want bold goals then bold action is required, because what got us here today will not get us any further ahead. A change in course is required and that means a change in actions and attitudes. I hope for our sake as Rockfordians this whos whos of money and business prestige can do more than throw money at bad ideas or worse yet fund a study of what they should with their time and money. And if anyone in that group ever says it wasnt like this in my time, or thats a crazy idea should automatically be forced to kick in another grand. Consider it the swear jar of progress for the wealthier. Because some of the greatest innovations came from not looking back but looking forward, and some of our greatest successes stemmed from crazy ideas. The word transformation is a word that requires more than a removal of this east & west divide. It requires a removal of ones cushy seats off those fancy chairs and getting in the mix and stirring the pot. Creating change will never be found in a plan, it will only be tested in action and implementation. And please do mistake this as an attack to these well established business people in our community. This post is not an attack directed at them. This is just an overall frustrated post from a man desperately seeking more from this community than the reviews of the latest grand theft auto game, or having someone ask me if I heard about that Rockford Scanner post. I just need more good news to out weigh the crap we seem to get an abundance of from many of our local sources.
