This has to be by far the fastest Summer gone by we have ever had! School is gearing up to start again on the 13th for Derek and all his appts have made the Summer go by so quickly. At times, its seemed so slow and agonizing with the setbacks hes had, but as things fall into place and come together, its going quickly! Had a wonderful visit with his home room teacher this afternoon whose brother also went through a bone marrow transplant and am excited to get the ball rolling this year for him! My hope is to get in as much as we can before the actual transplant starts. That way we have some wiggle room and hopefully he wont fall too far behind on lessons. Ill be checking with the hospital social worker about the school program they have for the kids. Hes in K-12, which is phenomenal, but I am hoping they have an actual teacher on board to assist at the hospital in case we need some immediate tutoring or help as he works through this process. Thankfully, hell be able to work on lessons in between and after appts, which will help keep on track since he has a full lesson plan online. We wont get to do as many science experiments outside this year, but Im sure I can figure out something we can apply to his lessons while inside! I cant believe hes a freshman! Seems like yesterday we were all nerves with him starting public school as a small child. So very proud of him! He always gives 100% on his lessons even when he doesnt feel good and its always a joy to work with him as his learning coach! So much has changed and other things I have forgotten, so its fun to do the lessons with him and learn them all over again or something new. I am a bit sad he cannot be in the classroom with his friends, but we do love K-12! Heres to an amazing new year of new life, new knowledge and endless hopes of joy and life to come!
