This is Grace enjoying watermelon. Shes a 30+ year old Appaloosa mare. When she arrived in 2007 her right eye had deteriorated to the point that the eyelids and eyelashes were curled inside the socket and was one big infected mess. We had a local vet remove the eyeball. It was a big undertaking with extensive aftercare and several trips to the clinic. In 2007, Grace had one good eye, while the left eye did not have sight it was complete. Now her other eye is deteriorated as well and will need to be surgically removed too. Gracie has been a happy healthy girl over the past seven years other than her eye issues. She and Lakota live in the north end of the Blind Horse Habitat. Gracie is one of six blind horses which live at the Triple O. Our first experience with a blind horse was with Lakota, a BLM mustang mare that was rounded up, auctioned off, neglected, rescued and when blind without ever being handled and tamed. We never planned to become the blind horse refuge of southeastern Oklahoma, it just kinda happened that way
