This is SOOO 2008. Yet another article about how hard it is for college educated Black women to find a mate. Apparently Rachel Noerdlinger is the Chief of Staff for the First lady of NYC and her boyfriend is a career criminal. As part of her position, Noerdlinger has access to sensitive law enforcement information- so you could see the conflict. Now a concerned NY Post is lamenting how someone with Noerdlingers professional achievements could be in a relationship with a career criminal and they have concluded that this INDIVIDUAL relationship is indicative of the plight of ALL of professional Black womanity. Im over all of these articles claiming to be concerned about professional Black womens marriage prospects. If you want to be married and it is the MOST important thing in your life, you can be married. No you dont have to settle for a criminal. Yes, you may have to expand your dating pool. Yes, you may have to redefine you laundry list of criteria for a prospective spouse. No, you dont have to settle. Yes, he might not be from your neighborhood or even your country. No, you dont owe other people anything when it comes to making your selection in a mate. No, Im not interested in hearing how hard it is for you to find a man or the laundry list of grievances with Black men. Focus on what you want instead of what you dont want. YES, being single can be an amazing existence. No, marriage is not superior to singlehood---unless you want to be married. I know PLENTY of miserable married people. No, Noerdlingers INDIVIDUAL choice means absolutely nothing to me. Why dont they write a post about June Shannons (the mother of Honey Boo Boo) repeated relationship choices and what that means for non-Black women. Youre not going to see that article because her choices are attributed to INDIVIDUAL decisions. In the interest of full disclosure, Rachel and I have interacted over the past 8 years because of all of my run-ins with Rev. Al. She was a zealous advocate for her boss-- even when he was wrong. wrong. wrong. So I suspect shes being kept around (for now) because of that record of loyalty to Sharpton. Isnt there a gubernatorial candidate in Oregon or Washington State whose fiance was involved in a fraudulent marriage to flout immigration law? Oh wait. Heres the link nytimes/2014/10/11/us/oregon-first-ladys-ex-marriage-spills-into-race-for-governor.html?_r=0 No, I would not make the same choice, but I also would argue that my relationship choices are symptomatic of a pattern of behavior of all of Black womanity anymore than Cylvia Hayes choices are indicative of a pattern of behavior for non-Black women. This article has been written over and over again. nypost/2014/11/02/no-scrubs-the-dilemma-of-modern-african-american-women/?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=NYPTwitter&utm_medium=SocialFlow The career criminal boyfriend name dropped Rachels name trying to get out of paying parking tickets. newyork.cbslocal/2014/10/17/recordings-reveal-de-blasio-aide-noerdlingers-boyfriend-name-dropped-when-fighting-parking-ticket/ #NotSmart He appears to have a reckless disregard for how his actions impact the girlfriend who is paying for the luxury car hes riding around in...
