This is a complicated post which covers 2 issues, one important and the other frivolous. Based on the attached article it seems France needs to tighten their gun laws, why allow terrorist easy access to rifles and pistols. The French really need to address this, after all, a terrorist will obey such laws. And then there is this little sentence. Bombs carry a high risk of detection when the components are being assembled, and they are inherently unstable and often malfunction, with deadly results for the hapless bomb makers. My attention was immediately drawn to hapless and I wondered what a hap was and how difficult it must be to function without hap. Unlike strapless, restless or other derivatives in which the root word is still known hap has disappeared from the lexicon. It must have existed at one time for a word derived from it to exist. I could not find hap after searching several dictionaries and the etymology of hapless only says the word first appeared in the 14th century. If you can solve this mystery then please help. So, which issue was important and which was frivolous? news.yahoo/paris-terror-arsenal-kalashnikovs-rocket-launcher-grenade-082259447.html
