An experienced volunteer will do their best to guide you through the process. Brooklyn Center: My name is ATHENA. My Animal ID # is A1022564. I am a female blue and white american staff mix. The shelter thinks I am about 2 YEARS old. I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 12/07/2014 from NY 11236, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY. Exam Type BEHAVIOR Athena was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment - jumped up, licked hands and face. She was excited during some of the handling and jumped up between items, but had soft body language. When playing tag with assessor she engages in play, with a loose and wiggly body, neutral tail wag, and her mouth is open. Athena did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl during the food test, and she was easy to handle when chewing on toys and rawhides. Look: 1. Dog leans forward to lick the Assessors face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Body loose and wiggly, mouth open and tail wagging Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dishs movement. Dogs body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy, dog smells and licks, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog smells and licks, then turns away. Dog-dog: Off leash she tends to be a bit fearful,but she allows males and females to sniff her initially, and she will sniff other dogs, side to side. When dogs try to engage in play she will give back off warnings and will seek to increase distance. Update: She has shown some improvement, still a bit fearful but much more willing to engage, and she becomes loose-bodied when greeting other dogs.
