This is a fantastic piece by scholar Charles Reid. Very important to underscore the commitment to social justice at this moment when so much of the world is on fire yearning for the truth of the human condition. John XXIII did so much to open our church to its own better understanding of the body of Christ and Dr. Reid has done much to open the minds of those who do not have the experience of praying for the "fat little pontiff" As the late Holy Father sometimes endearingly referred to himself. God packages the beautiful and the good in many shapes and sizes.
