This is a great article explaining why catcalling causes actual fear. After years of DAILY harassment, I pretty much never want to speak to a male stranger. These experiences also bias my relationships to men I consider friends. When I hear a mans voice calling I immediately go into panic mode. Every time. And this happens as I walk from one block to the next. How sad that I have grown accustomed to a constant fear of attack from the other half.
