This is a mix of the 1994 East Australian Humpback Whale Song. We named the singer Alcyon after the star in the Pleiades star system. Listen to the extended mix here soundcloud/iwhales/alcyone The mother and calf approached the research vessel while we were still at anchor early one morning in a depth of about 2 metres. We named the breaching whale Sky Rider. Sky Rider was breaching as we approached him. We counted over 60 breaches before we lost count. Then he continued to breach as we moved slowly away from him.
