This is a true story, just so happens to be my best friends dad, a friend of a friend saw it on Facebook and forwarded to me so now I can share it..... Veterans Day: At the dump there was an old man poking around in the plastic recycled dumpster with an umbrella. His Iwo Jima hat make me look twice. I walked over and asked him, whats going on? he said that he thought he threw out his phone charger by accident and was looking for the bag he had thrown in. I turned off my truck and climbed into the dumpster. We went through quite a few tied up grocery bags - and at last, the correct one was recovered. Climbing out of the dumpster was a bigger deal than climbing in, and my new friend, Mr Hollis Johnson, insisted that he assist me out. He was quite frail looking -about the same size and weight as I - and yet I leapt out using his shoulder for balance. We talked. He served on the USS Chester in the Pacific. He was a communications officer and received the alert on Pearl Harbor. I told him that my father had been at Pearl Harbor and in Guam. He told me his wife was in the hospital and that he was so concerned he couldnt think straight and thats why he was so distracted he threw out his charger. Mr Hollis Johnson is 92 years old -still walking (with a cane) and still driving. He said I was a sweetheart. And this is my story about how I fell in love with a veteran. To all veterans - my best.
