This is an excellent comment on why we are fighting so hard to improve education from my good friend, Jenni Nicki: Our union has 41 000 members and schools of varying socio - economic needs. There is no way every single teacher will be happy with the way the union has handled this. What every single teacher should be happy about is the benefits, pension, wage, etc that we do receive because our union has fought for us. United we fight. Divided we beg. Im standing up for all those students who have already and will continue to fall behind because they did not receive enough support in school, due to special ed teachers, librarians, and counselors being cut. Im standing up for all those students who have a special need but will not be designated with one because the government doesnt want to spend the money on extra suport for those students. Im standing up to this government because one day I will have children in this system and Ill be damned if didnt do my part in ensuring they have a FREE quality public education. There but for the grace of God go I.... it couldve been any of us with a special need. It could be any of our children. I will not sit idly by as this government destroys our education system.
