This is disheartening. Bans dont solve problems and extreme ones such as this are not based on any rationale argument and are merely reactionary measures based off of fear and ignorance. Reptiles in general, and snakes specifically, get an undeservedly bad reputation for no reason other than learned prejudices. We should all be trying to help protect nature from destructive forces. The best way to go about doing so is by creating emotional attachments between people and nature. This happens through education, exposure, and positive experiences, which is one area where pets have the potential to do immeasurable good. Most, if not all, of the best snakes to introduce people to are in the hobby and by building positive experiences with these animals we can motivate people to care about their own native species ecosystems. It is difficult or impossible to recreate these experiences in any other way. Please add your voice in opposition to this ban. If you are local, try to attend the meeting and get your voice heard.
