This is going to be a bit of a rant. I will probually offend several of you with this so consider this a fair warning before you continue reading. Still here? Good then lets get started. I recently met another American here in Guatemala and for some reason he identified himself as african american )as if his skin color was not obvious. I asked him if he was indeed from africa. He said no he never has even been to africa. I told him he then is no more african american than I am european american. Unless you are from africa and migrate to and become a citizen of america then you are not african american. The same goes for native american. i say anyone born in america is native american. All this labeling does is segregates our americanism. History lesson for you folks that didnt work out so well for the japanese americans in the intern camps during WWII.Why cant we just be americans and leave it at that. Who do you think starts all these labels anyway? I would almost bet the farm it is the government and for their own reasons which you can be sure are not good. Now to some this may make me sound like a racist. It is the complete opposite. Skin tone should have no bearing on your americanism! And there are certain people that think I should apolagise for being born white? I had no choice or control in that. And I refuse to be guilted into some sort of racial guilt for the actions of men in the past that I have no connection to. The U.S. government pay the indians money and other benefits and for what really? There isnt an indian alive today who walked the trail of tears. Then why not pay the black people of america for slavery and centuries of racial injustices? Because it would bankrupt them. We(and I use that term loosely as I really dont feel a connect to the jack asses of the past)may have not stolen their land but we took them away from their land and in many cases robbed them of their identity forcing then to use european names. Sold their children away from their mothers. Husbands away from wives and on and on. I assure you I am not racist but I am prejudiced. I do not like the muslim faith. I think it is an evil religion. I do not believe in the moderate muslim. If they exist then wher were they on Sept.12th 2001? Why were they not all screaming outrage in what was done in the name of their religion of peace. Every channel showed muslims burning our flag but as for their outrage all I got was a deafening silence. Oh and America how soon we forget as you elected one president not once but twice! Wake up America!!! What are you thinking? Sure not all muslims are terrorist just as not all christians are devout. Some christians only go to church on Christmas and Easter. I am sure the mulim faith is the same. Of course they are not all terrorist. I know there are evil people in every religion but you dont hear of a group of pentacostals getting together to blow up a building. I am prejudiced but not hostile. I believe in freedom of religion. I may not agree with a persons chosen faith but I support their right to it. I just watch those guys with a little more scrutiny is all.
