This is my e-mail to Cornwall Council this morning >>>> Dear Stephen (CC Looe Town Council and BBC Radio Cornwall for info) It is now day 4 of the remedial works to St Martins Road and there has been no sign of any significant work on the project. Monday saw a flurry of managers placing the road closed signs and arrival of the portaloo. Tuesday and Wednesday a few shrubs and trees branches were removed, which could have been done with the road open. Where is the drilling rig? The reason for the closure was to underpin the bank and this we were told this could ONLY be done from the top with a specialist rig. That was why the road needed to be closed. This rig is no-where to be seen. We the residents of Looe were promised 6 days a week 12 hours a day from day 1. So after 48 single man hours basically nothing has been achieved. Could you please explain why? Quite frankly this is NOT acceptable. We are already suffering because of this closure with not only inconvenient detours and dangerous detours, but at the end of the job the closure at the end of the job is eating into the holiday season, which most of Looe depend upon, not only for this year, but for years to come. The situation with the diversion will only get worse with the growing volume of traffic as the weather improves and this WILL drive tourists away. Once gone they will not come back. The town centre is grid lock, the traffic lights dont work, the traffic lights at Widegates are adisaster waiting to happen, there was no shuttle bus to get vulnerable residents from Barbican are into Looe - so we, the residents and local council had to arrange our own I and others are keeping regular watch on the progress of the work. We were promised at the Millpool Centre meeting that there would be 12 hours a day work. The majority of Looe didnt want the work done at this time, but you imposeed it upon us and we now EXPECT you deliver your promises NOW Please could you make a public press release to explain why nothing has started Neil Hipkiss Resident and business owner - East Looe cc Looe Town Council cc Christine Butler BBC Radio Conrwall This FB message is for Looe Area Only
