This is what cheapjack countries do. They will invite a bunch of Indian experts to partake in a rather modest lunch to pick their brains. I call it a hundred buck lunch with a glass of wine, in exchange for all you know. Quite cheap what? But Indian experts will always aspire for it and sing for it. But what will the Dutch do knowing about Indian foreign policy and incidentally where is this country? One American diplomat hosted a similar breakfast seminar for a low level visiting US DoD official in charge of arms sales. And his complaint was that India doesnt buy enough and how can we expand this? Our experts were full of ideas. Our wishlists too were long. The F35 fellow was doing his bit. Yesterday another ambassadors secretary called and said her boss would like to recieve me at his office. Can I make it convenient? I said, no I cant, but I will be glad to buy him a modest lunch at the IIC and have the pleasure of his acquaintance. Dear Mr. Mohan Guruswamy, On behalf of the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Mr. Alphonsus Stoelinga, I would like to invite you to participate in a working lunch on Friday 17 October at 1:00pm at his Residence on 10, Aurangzeb Road, New Delhi. The topic that will be discussed during lunch is Indias Foreign Policy. Ambassador Stoelinga intends to invite several other acclaimed Indian experts on the subject too. We would appreciate a small line of confirmation including any dietary restrictions you might have. Looking forward to see you on the 17th of October. On behalf of the Netherlands Ambassador, Mariëlle van Miltenburg Head of the Department for Political Affairs and Public Diplomacy ....................................................................................
