This man was a known criminal, a self-styled Islamic cleric and a convert from Shia Islam to Sunni Islam. In his own words he claimed that he had converted from Shiism to Islam. This is exactly the type of intolerant ideas that some Sunni groups promote - namely the Wahabi, Salafi branches of Sunni Islam that are the foundations of the ideologies promoted by the Taliban, Al-Qaeda and ISIL. Despite this, many in the West continue to see Iran as a threat, despite the fact that Iran has never been an aggressor against other countries, unlike some other Middle Eastern countries whose names begin with I.
