This morning at NASAs Cape Canaveral, history was made as SpaceX - TopicsExpress

This morning at NASAs Cape Canaveral, history was made as SpaceX successfully lifted off its Falcon rocket carrying cargo and experiments up to the International Space Station. Amazingly, its first stage rocket landed on an autonomous drone barge in the Atlantic, setting the stage for future drone barge landings that could help recycle these expensive rockets that are typically never recovered. In the case of this mornings first barge landing, the rocket came down too hard to be salvaged, but significant learnings were captured to improve this process for the future. Of note in this mission is CATS: the Cloud-Aerosol Transport System instrument will track clouds and tiny particles of dust, smoke and pollution in Earths atmosphere that influence climate. This in turn will help meteorologists and climatologists better understand the impact this matter has on weather and climate.
