This morning, on The Today Show, there was an interview with six of the American ebola survivors. First of all, seeing their resolve toward ending the epidemic was uplifting. All agreed that they would do anything within their power to put an end to the deadly disease whether its going to West Africa or going to work to care for patients with the deadly virus. However, when asked what they were grateful for, one survivor gave a response I found particularly profound. The beautiful nurse from Texas, not the one with the cute dog, but the one with the curly hair responded in a way Ill never forget. She said that her thankful feelings present themselves in trivial times. For instance, she indicated that when shes cooking, her ability to smell the food makes her grateful. When shes doing laundry, her ability to feel the warmth that comes from laundry fresh from the dryer makes her feel thankful to have been given a second chance. We should all recognize such simple things as blessings.
