This past weekend at the Biķernieki racetrack in Riga Nickolay - TopicsExpress

This past weekend at the Biķernieki racetrack in Riga Nickolay Gryazin trained again. Junior Gryazin was honing his driving and nuances of working with co-driver before Rally Masters Show. We have a lot of news and now were happy to finally reveal our thoughts and announce our plans and our sponsor for the April race, which is the project of ProRing.ru. Biķernieki. Pines, warm spring sun and a wide band of asphalt. From the depths of a pine forest a roar and whistle can be heard growing and in a second theres a red car coming out from the turn, it moves towards the starting line. It brakes, stops, the sound of engine fades near the team technicals. The team takes a break. Today its the same car on the track - the car Nickolay will be driving on the Rally Masters Show. Its the red Evo IX R4. But why is it Vasily who gets out of the car smiling, hanging the steering wheel on a hook? Todays the day of co-training. Healthy enthusiasm, mutual exchange of experience and a friendly fight - together they give a lot more than honing techniques in proud loneliness. In addition to pilots, theres Dmitriy Chumak on the road today - he is an experienced co-driver, who will accompany Nickolay in the Moscow festival of motorsport. Stanislav Gryazin will be the mentor. After each circle the red Evo stops by the grey concrete bump stop, followed by Stanislav standing with a stopwatch. Opinion exchange takes place alternately with Nickolay, then with Vasiliy, who sits behind the wheel of the Lancer. - Stanislav, hows the training? Why are guys training on another car today, not the one they drove last time? - The white car we drove last time was Evo gr.N, the specification of that car was gravel. We used it because the one we drive now was not ready for the action. Our perfomance and futher training will be held on the red Evo R4, that was rebuilt after Vasily competed at the Latvian rally. Also it was fully prepared for asphalt covering. Today guys drive on the track formed from different segments of Biķerniekis racetrack, relief and other elements of this track are very similar to velodrome in Krylatskoe. The purpose of the last training was getting comfortable for Nickolay to drive a new type of car, this time we needed to fine-tune the car for Nickolay and he was learning to pilot car fast and clean. I like the settings of the car we managed to find. And the Nickolays progress is very impressive. He is a bit slower than his brother of cource, but he is working on it and continues to improve his skills. The question is can he drive it with one attempt, though the track is familiar, he never drove it in a car. He doesnt have the skill of driving new track for the first time without any training. But when you perform race on the circle type of track you dont need to beat it with the first round, what really important is to accelerate with each session and to find reserves in yourself, in the road and in the car, and this is exactly what Nickolay can do really good. Sergei Domaev commented on his attitude towards this project: - The decision to make Nickolay take part in Rally Masters Show were made during the analysis of his racing in various circuit races. Everythings good about his speed and reliability, and Im sure he can show good results and adapt to any environment and any technics in no time. The idea was formed finally when I watched his performance at Dubai 24 Hour race. He easily got used to Porche, which is really fast but quite difficult to drive, he went very stable with decent time result through the whole race. As RMS is a festival of motorsport on the first place, Nickolay will participate with a priority to show himself and his high level of driving - and high it truly is! Despite the fact that hes only 16 and hes not familiar with rally, Im sure he will look decent and will attract some attention. And this is our main goal. Nickolay Gryazin: - These two days in Latvia were very helpful. This time I drove the car, Im gonna use in race. On the first day me and my father were working on settings, I tried to get used to the car and its handling. By the standards of the circle races the car is pretty heavy and inert. But at the same time its easy and stable to drive. It took some time for me to get used to brakes, the car slows down not as intense as I expected. Also I learned to use pacenotes - its a bit unusual. But I surely understand that co-driver is very essential on the track that is not well-known to you. Velodrome in Krylatskoe is familiar to me , but riding it on the bike and racing it for the first time attempting to get a good result is not the same. We spend the second day together with Vasily - we were driving with each other, debating, discussing, comparing. The style of our driving is really different, Vasily drives aggressively and hes not too gentle with the car. On contrary, I try to drive in more of a circle-race style - nice, neat and without big drifts. Well, training with brother is always very interesting. A few days before Rally Masters Show on the 19th of April, brothers plan to spend another small training together, but each will drive his own car. It will be more of a warming up, repetition for Nickolay and setting the car for Vasily. Nest week Vasily will do some tests before Acropolis rally, which programm also includes asphalt stages. We will tell you about details and the race itself a bit later. Stay tuned!
