This past year we became a non-profit organization so we could raise money to operate The North Pole Christmas Display. A non-profit has to fall under one of these categories: charitable, religious, educational, scientific, literary, testing for public safety, fostering amateur sports competition, or preventing cruelty to children or animals. We chose educational. So here is our front cover of a pamphlet that we will be handing out to people that visit our display. Tell me what you think. Thanks........ THE NORTH POLE CHRISTMAS DISPLAY Newfoundland is a small town surrounded by farms & wilderness with many wild animals, including bear and deer . In the midst of all this there is The North Pole drive thru Christmas display. I remember when I was a small child. My father would bring me and my sisters to see this display in the Brooklyn Terminal Market. I was always in awe and really felt as though I was in the North Pole. It was very exciting. Santa Claus came to life thru these displays, seeing the elves making toys, and baking cakes etc. My wife and I were lucky to be in the right place at the right time and we wound up purchasing the display in 2007 from the Visconti Family Market. A lot of the figures were not working because of many years of use. I spent that entire year working tirelessly on them repairing and replacing motors. It was important to me to restore these figures back to life and be able to give back to the community and my son, what my father gave to me. In 2008 we enclosed our entire front porch with plexiglass and assembled the display on it for everyone in the town to see. We continued this for the next 4 years. It was a lot of work and became tiring very quickly. So I came up with the idea of building display units on old house trailer frames. The trailers would serve as a means of display at Christmas and storage in the off season. They would never have to be disassembled again. In 2012 we became a drive thru. These mechanical animated figures of Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, The Dickens Carolers and Elves working hard making toys are so life like. They were all hand crafted and painted with such detail by the Hamberger Christmas Display Company. The company was founded in 1922 by David Hamberger. He and his family employed people from Brooklyn to build these awesome figures with such detail and the highest quality workmanship. A product anyone would be proud to put their name on. Sad to say that in 2008 the company closed their doors. We hope to carry on the tradition of these wonderful displays along with the history of them and bring delight to the children of the area for many years to come. Historical roots of Santa Claus are very deep and intriguing. All around the world we celebrate the joy of Santa. Different places having different tributes. It truly is a mystical and spiritual time. But Christmas is not just a time for exchanging gifts but a reflection on what life and Christmas really means. Most importantly its a celebration of the birth of Jesus. Merry Christmas to all. The Spinelli Family
