This song came out a couple years before I was born, but I have always loved it. Where are the musicians and singers of this caliber?! Turn the radio on any given channel and youll see what I mean. A 13 year old can create an entire album on a computer and never pick up an actual instrument or learn a note. Im all for the evolution of talent and musicianship. There are some truly talented people out there, but I, personally, think that most of todays music just lacks soul. Im not just talking the genre of music. The very basic notes of the song dont convey the exhausting pain felt by the writer. The lyrics dont pull back the layers of deceit and despair to expose the ugliness of misguided or unrequited love. The vocals dont pour sweet honey into the listeners ear. The verses, hooks and choruses just dont grab you and shake you to the bone like certain music from the 70s did. If you are not familiar with The Detroit Spinners or this song, do yourself a favor -- go to an empty room, close the door, dim the lights or turn them off, think back to a younger version of your jaded self and try to remember heartbreak. Once its on your mind, play this song. Let the lyrics pluck away at your heartstrings. Allow the vocals to wrap your embarrassment up up a warm blanket and sip cocoa from a mug that says Best Friends Forever. Drift off on the cloud of comfort that the keys and drum have so ingeniously created. You can thank me later...
